So first let me share a link with you that explains “Why does 75 degrees feel so hot in Alaska?” So often it is hard to convince people that the summers here are glorious. That days get so hot you feel like you are melting. But it is and they do. And this explains why that is.
At the kennel we adapt to the heat. Working with the dogs in the cool mornings and evenings. Sunny days are spent divided between yard work, and trying to avoid the heat with time at the river or work in the cool garage / shop.
Dog relax during the hot part of the day. The relax on their houses, or in the shade of them.
But in the evenings when things cool down they are more vocal. Here we have some of the retired dogs lead by Thistle in an after dinner howl.
It has been a hot one so far, but also a good summer. Getting work done, and making time to enjoy the sun while it is here. Have to be honest, I am already looking forward to next winter, and the mushing adventures it has ins tore for us. But till then I will take advantage of the sunshine.
And I hope y’all will enjoy some of Victoria Forrester’s beautiful photography from the long summer days at Dew Claw.
“Far away there in the sunshine are my highest aspirations. I may not reach them, but I can look up and see their beauty, believe in them, and try to follow where they lead. “
