Of course a bulk of time will be spent on dog projects this summer, that goes without saying. But Alaska’s long hot days means there will be time for some diversification at Dew Claw.
That means woodworking & sled building for Dan. Lead singer and songwriter for Slick & the Grifters Victoria will be making music this summer; you can follow the band on Facebook. And I, Jodi, will be experimenting and crafting in glass, and enjoying the inspiration an Alaskan summer has to offer.
With so much going on I have not been blogging much. But today is the day, figured if I was not going to be online much I should at least show you what I am doing instead. So here it is for your viewing pleasure. Our blog today features images from the last few days – ENJOY.
On days when it is cool enough in the mornings we like to get some of the dogs out for a run. As you can see this is something they approve of.
Daily puppy free runs always end with a trip to the puppy pool. A great way to cool off, but we hope this will also give them confidence when we encounter water obstacles on the trail. In addition to daily exercise and being a lot of fun, puppy runs give us the opportunity to work on recall and communication with the puppies.
Even the house dog enjoy getting in on the action. We are fortunate to have access to trails year round. Including short loops of private trail on our property for dog friendly hiking and leader training. If you are visiting the Fairbanks area and would like a private hands on kennel tour and demo, or a short hike with one of our retired Quest / Iditarod veteran dogs, please contact us.
And do not forget we have the Dew Claw Cabin, a rustic off grid get-a-way. Perfect for hiking, photography, bird watching, berry picking, or just enjoying the beautiful Chatanika Valley. Click here for information and photos.
Artist Ray Bonnell has some wonderful sketches and history about the area in his blog – Sketches of Alaska. In particular this one about the Davidson Ditch, a prominent historic landmark less then a miles walk on the Dew Claw Cabin trails.
“Ambitious Davidson Ditch brought water to Fairbanks dredges“
Keep close to Nature’s heart… and break clear away, once in awhile, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean.
