Nature always wears the colors of the spirit.
Ralph Waldo Emerson
As the world changes from deep greens and wildflowers, to bold colors of fall, and will eventually fade into winter whites; all of us at Dew Claw are going full steam ahead into the changing season. The dogs look great and we are getting teams out daily. Thanks to Victoria I have a few videos to share with you here. I think they do a much better job showing the joy or training then I could typing, so ~
I tell you words can not really explain the feeling you get on a crisp morning, sun rising, dogs barking, the energy is amazing.
The next video Victoria did some editing for a crazy fun effect, mirroring the video of her out with a team after a light snow. (Not enough for sleds yet, we are on quads. But the new snow sure does make things beautiful, even the dogs seem to enjoy it.) Often we let dogs free run along with teams, aside from being great fun for the free dogs, it is a good way to help accustom teams to dealing with loose dogs – a problem you may encounter in trails. In this clip you see Victoria’s dog Trout showing off her natural Malinois athleticism.
When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive – to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love.

Axle sure wakes up ready to be alive and enjoy!
In addition to running dogs we have also been hard at work making sure the kennel is set for the winter ahead. In addition to checking all the dog houses, making repairs, cleaning them out, and adding fresh straw, the yard itself needed some TLC. All the pens, old and new got a new fresh layer of wood chips, and additional chips were spread in the main yard to better prepare it for the inevitable thaw of spring. Earlier this year we rented a industrial chipper for the new pen project. Well below is a video showing Bundy’s reaction when we learned that for the same price as a weekend rent we can get more than we could make in a weekend, delivered! And dumped very close to where we need them to boot!
When you rise in the morning, give thanks for the light, for your life, for your strength. Give thanks for your food and for the joy of living. If you see no reason to give thanks, the fault lies in yourself.
Shawnee Indian political leader and war chief Tecumseh (1768-1813)
I love this quote, dogs seem to do this naturally and we are lucky to be able to work with them, they give us something to look forward to every day.
