“The thing with heat is, no matter how cold you are, no matter how much you need warmth, it always, eventually, becomes too much.” ― Victoria Aveyard
I could not agree more, and this past week it has been too much! I did not move to Alaska to be in melting hot glaringly bright days, I came for the winters. But like all things in life there must be balance, so the seasons turn. Summer at Dew Claw means free runs, leader training, kennel chores, and preparing for winter. But with temps in the 90’s F none of that is much fun. So we resort to an favorite childhood summer activity, playing with the hose!!! Which it turns out is as much fun as an adult as it was when I was a kid, as long as I have my furry friends to play with.
These hot afternoons are perfect for hose time, we go down and spray the yard to keep the dust down, clean the water dishes and fill them with cold water from our well, and just have fun getting wet. Victoria was kind enough to grab a few videos and images from one of our recent hose play sessions. Hope they make you smile as much as we were when they were taken!
I especially like the slow motion one of me and Viking playing together, we were actually trying to get a shot of us with a rainbow. All day there had been rainbows in the mist of water we were making, and I thought it would make a cool photo. But this might be one of those situations where in reality things just do not work out like the manipulated photo-shoots you see. My version looks more like the silly ‘nailed it’ attempts you see online. For a good giggle and an example of what I mean check this out: Woman Recreates Instragram Photos.
“We’re like a gardener with a hose and our attention is water – we can water flowers or we can water weeds.” Josh Radnor
The flowers at Dew Claw are far happier about these hot summer days then the dogs are. And after a slow start this year they are now starting to bust out in full color. Berries are right behind them with the raspberries ready to pick and the blueberries coming along nicely. So I took a break from the endless task of weeding the flower beds to snap some photos for y’all of the summer colors in our yard.
