Y’all remember Flip Books? With a single photo on each page, each slightly further along in the progression of the action. And when you flipped through the pages it looked as though the pictures were an animated film. Well at Dew Claw we are now the proud owners of a wonderful camera with a setting that allows us to take photos flip book style. I am pretty sure the techie term for this is stop action. Well at least that is what I have been calling it, and so far nobody has laughed at & corrected me.
This new camera was actually a very kind gift; and thanks to our friend and their generosity the quality of photos taken at Dew Claw has significantly improved. I honestly do not think we would have a single in focus picture of the Little Buggers without it. They are a non-stop ball of energy these days. Gaining size and coordination by leaps and bounds. With the stop action photos I can capture them in motion and even give y’all sneak peak at their rambunctiousness.
What follows is a brief encounter between FireFly (running at us) and BedBug (going in for the ambush). The entire things might have lasted a minute if you include the after shots where they chase each other across the yard. Yet the stop action photos capture each moment as a unique pose, motion frozen in time. BedBug awaits as FireFly charges toward her. At the perfect moment she takes off to tackle him. Only to have him dart just out of reach…
Disclaimer: I have not actually tried this, but…
Teachers I think having students print out the photos and make their own flip books and then letting students write a commentary or story to go with it would make a fun class project. If you click on the images then you go to a page with a single larger version of the picture. So you could use the smaller or larger images for the books.
At Dew Claw Dan and I (Jodi) are both big fans of teachers! Any teachers using mushing in the classroom is welcome to use our blog / photos for educational non-commercial purposes. You may also enjoy the Q&A section of our blog. If your class has questions you can email them to us at jodi@dewclawkennel.com. Winter is our busy season but we will try to answer a few questions for students in future Q&A posts.
