Dew Claw Kennel has been involved in the world of competitive mushing for 2 decades, and in spite of the fact they have at times competed against each other in races Dan and Jodi have been working together on their race goals. Both agree that watching the young dogs born at Dew Claw turn into world class athletes, and come together as a team is one of the most exciting things about racing. That and the opportunity to see new trails and amazing places with a team of dogs you have know since birth.

Dan and Jodi have competed in major distance mushing events across Alaska and both are veterans of the 1000 mile races; the Yukon Quest and iditarod. Between them they have many top finishes including the Copper Basin 300, Knik 200, Denali Doubles, Tustumena 200, Gin Gin 200 (Jodi 2 time champion) and Tiaga 300 (Dan 2 time champion)

In addition Dan and Jodi enjoy sharing their love of mushing, and often take time to help other mushers getting involved in the sport of distance mushing. They also offer small group learn to mush trips.

Highlights of Dew Claw Racing

• 2004 Dan was awarded the Veterinarians Choice Award for the Yukon Quest.
• 2007 & 2008 Jodi was GinGin 200 champion.
•  2010 Dan was the Iditarod ‘Rookie of the Year’.
•  2011 Jodi became the first rookie in history to run both the Yukon Quest and Iditarod in the same year.
• 2018 Dan and the team finished 2nd in a very close Copper Basin 300.
• 2021 Dan finished first in the Summit Quest 300, Jodi finished 7th with a second team.
• 2022 Dan won the Yukon Quest Alaska 300.
• 2021 Dan finished Iditarod in 16th place, and earned the Nome Kennel Club, “fastest time from Safety to Nome” award.
• 2022 Dan finished  Iditarod in 4th place with all 14 canine team members. Making him the highest place to finisher in history to finish with a  full team.  And earning him the Leonhard Seppala Humanitarian Award for dog care.
• 2023 Dan places 3rd in the Willow 300 finishing with all 14 dogs.
